Training Highlights

Issues Discussed during February 2024 Zoom Training:

  1. Ministering to an aging population:  By 2034 senior citizens will outnumber children under age 18 for the first time in history.
  2. Religious Diversity:  Ministering to the Spiritual vs Religious; a common theme across the board in chaplaincy.
  3. Pluralism: Ever increasing in our culture.
  4. Evangelism vs Proselytism:  An ongoing issue that always needs some thought and definition.
  5. DEI in a Post Christian Culture: An issue for every walk of chaplaincy.  The DoD has planning group at Patrick AFB in which they used to have a chaplain assigned, but not sure now.
  6. Karen said something that I wrote down…. “Learning to remain faithful in perilous times.”  That is a good thought, and something that comes right out of the Prophets in the Bible.
  7. LGBTQA+ remains an issue for all of Chaplaincy.
  8. Alcohol and Suicide Ministry:  This was from Paul Randolph speaking about the police chaplaincy but this would cut across the board for every type of chaplaincy.
  9. Soul Care vs Funding Chaplaincy:  This is always an issue in every type of chaplaincy.  Basically proving your worth to the company, hospital, agency, military, etc…  As Chaplains how can we do that, and remain who we are and effective in our ministry.
  10. Moral injury: Ministering to those who suffer moral injury.  This was from the police side, but can be associated with every type of chaplaincy.
  11. Self-Care for Chaplains.
  12. Helping with morale of doctors and staff in the facilities.  Applicable to all types of chaplaincy.
